The Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company Hosts First-Ever Rugby Run
In their continuing efforts to support the rugby community and veterans, Penn Mutual holds fun run with proceeds benefiting the Travis Manion Foundation.
HORSHAM, Pa. – October 2, 2018 – The Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company (Penn Mutual) is proud to announce the company’s role in hosting the first-ever Penn Mutual Rugby Run. This 2.8 mile run/walk event occurred on August 22 and raised $2,500 for the Travis Manion Foundation, which Penn Mutual proudly supports. In 2017, the life insurance company announced an extension of their initial financial commitment to this charitable organization for a total of five years, and the new Penn Mutual Rugby Run is a reflection of that pledge. The race proceeds go directly toward the foundation’s mission to empower veterans and families of fallen heroes to continue their service, develop strong relationships with their communities, and thrive in their post-military lives.
The run was organized by USA Olympic Rugby stars Alev Kelter and Ben Pinkelman as part of an internship with Penn Mutual. These individuals were chosen as a way of promoting Penn Mutual’s commitment to rugby and professional development, as well as USA Rugby’s push to give its athletes a foundation for life after rugby. The internship program, which lasted for roughly six months, gave both rugby players an opportunity to gain real world working experience.
“Ben and I were honored to have the opportunity to take part in an internship that involved giving back to a local charity,” Kelter explained. “At the end of the day, we not only had the chance to make a difference, but we gained real-world experience while also learning more about ourselves and what we like to do in a professional setting.”
Tom Harris, Executive Vice President, Distribution at Penn Mutual touched on bringing together two of the company’s passions – their sponsorship of rugby and commitment to the Travis Manion Foundation. “We’re thrilled to have raised $2,500 for this organization, especially since it is one that our company and associates deeply support. The foundation’s mission of empowering veterans and their families is inspiring and we are strongly committed to that cause. Penn Mutual would like to thank everyone who participated in the event, and to Alev and Ben for donating their time and energy to organizing it.”
