The American College Penn Mutual Center for Veterans Affairs Announces Sequence of Prominent Scholarship Milestones

HORSHAM, Pa. – January 23, 2018  The Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company (Penn Mutual) is thrilled to announce that The American College Penn Mutual Center for Veterans Affairs has reached two major milestones in their efforts to provide educational support and career opportunities to military veterans and their spouses. On the heels of awarding the 100th scholarship in calendar year 2017 to a recipient in December, the Center has also announced that they have surpassed $2 million in the value of full scholarships provided since their founding in 2012.

The Center was established to support Armed Forces veterans and their spouses in the transition from active duty into careers in the financial services space. To date, over 360 individuals have been granted full scholarships to obtain financial designations such as the CFP®, ChFC®, CLU®, and their Master’s degree as they reenter the civilian workforce.

This past December, Sima Tamaddon from Camp Lejeune, NC was awarded the 100th scholarship in the calendar year. The spouse of an active duty Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant, Tamaddon is working toward her ChFC and CFP designation. After she completes the curriculum, she plans to open her own financial planning firm to help individuals and couples meet their long-term financial goals.

In January, the Center also exceeded the notable milestone of providing over $2 million in scholarship funding. Ted Digges, Captain, SC, USN (Ret.), executive director, Penn Mutual Center for Veterans Affairs, expressed that the Center had a banner year of growth in 2017, and that the recent milestones are paving the way for further expansion in 2018.

“There is tremendous dedication in the financial profession to support and empower our service members and their families. To say that we are proud of reaching these milestones is an understatement – it’s our privilege to support this community as they transition into their second careers,” says Digges. “We look forward to another exceptional year and continuing to support these honorable men and women.”

Eileen McDonnell, CEO and chairman at Penn Mutual, explains that military veterans are uniquely positioned to succeed in a career in financial services. “They bring to the profession a profound sense of dedication and a sense of mission to help others. We are honored to have aligned ourselves with the Center at the American College since its inception, and are proud to know that these distinguished individuals will push the industry forward.”
